
Strong Rodríguez Outing Lifts RailRiders

ALLENTOWN, PA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders topped the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 5-1 Thursday night. Yankees #3 prospect Elmer Rodríguez posted his best start of the season behind seven shutout frames.
Rodríguez struck out the first batter he saw and took down the IronPigs 1-2-3. He faced traffic on the basepaths in the second and third but got out of them clean. He settled in after that sitting down the next thirteen batters he faced.
Tyler Hardman started the scoring for the RailRiders in the fourth. J.C. Escarra singled to reach and Hardman smoked a two-run shot out of the ballpark.
The RailRiders added a pair more in the next inning. Christian Bethancourt, Jasson Domínguez, and Max Schuemann each earned walks to load the bases. Escarra laced a run scoring single that plated two for a 4-0 advantage.
SWB tacked on one more as Anthony Volpe's RBI double sent home Fernández.
The IronPigs broke their scoreless contest, plating a run on a fielder's choice in the eighth to make it 5-1.
Rodríguez (W, 8-3) pitched a season-high seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits and a walk. He struck out seven batters on 94 pitches. Ryan Cusick tossed two quiet innings to start, but Tucker Davidson (L, 6-5) took on the bulk of the work.
Righty Adam Kloffenstein gets the call for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday night against Brian Keller for Lehigh Valley. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 P.M.
