ALLENTOWN, PA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders lost 11-3 to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Wednesday evening at Coca-Cola Park. The IronPigs opened the scoring with a seven-run first, and the RailRiders could not overcome the deficit.

Lehigh Valley sent ten to the plate in the bottom of the first to build the 7-0 lead. Gabriel Rincones Jr. doubled in Dylan Moore to open the scoring. A two-run double from Tommy Pham extended the lead, and Paul McIntosh's grand slam capped the inning.

Oswaldo Cabrera and Yanquiel Fernández hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the second to narrow the gap. Cabrera's was his second in as many games this week and traveled 414 feet to center. Fernández drilled a 1-1 changeup from IronPigs starter Drake Fellows down the right field line for his 20th of the season.

Max Schuemann doubled in Anthony Volpe in the third to cut the RailRiders deficit down to 7-3.

In the bottom of the fourth, Keaton Anthony lined a three-run homer to left to push the Lehigh Valley lead back to seven at 10-3. The IronPigs added a run on an infield single in the seventh to cap the scoring at 11-3.

Yankees' No. 21 prospect Xavier Rivas (0-1) was tagged with the loss, surrendering six runs on two hits and four walks in 0.2 innings. Drake Fellows (4-2) allowed three runs on seven hits over seven complete in the win. RailRiders' outfielder Duke Ellis stole second base in the sixth inning, his 44th steal of the season, matching Tommy Barrett's single-season record. Barrett stole 44 bases in 120 games during Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's inaugural 1989 season. Ellis has equaled the record in 81 games played this year.

NEWS AND NOTES

IN THE LEAGUE - After back-to-back losses, the RailRiders drop out of first place in the International League. They are now a game behind the leading Indianapolis and a half a game back from Worcester, holding third place in the league. The RailRiders are 4-6 in their last ten games and nine contests above .500 on the full season.

BACK-TO-BACK - Two RailRiders players hit back-to-back home runs last night in the second inning. Oswaldo Cabrera took Drake Fellows 414-feet deep to centerfield for his 14th of the season. Yanquiel Fernández followed it up with a long ball of his own, his 20th of the season. It was the seventh time this season that SWB has had two consecutive players hit home runs. Cabrera has done it one other time where he was the first player to go yard, also against Lehigh Valley on May 19. Seth Brown followed him deep.

DUKE'S DASHING - Duke Ellis tied a record for single-season stolen bases, after adding one more to his total last night. His 44 tied a record set by by Tommy Barrett in 1989. Barrett did so in 120 games, whereas Ellis marked his in 81 contests. Ellis also holds the franchise record for 86 total with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 157 games. The prior record was held by Nick Punto who stole 82 bags in 263 games. Ellis's personal record is 57 in a single year done back in 2024.

EVERYBODY MAKES MISTAKES - SWB made an error in the game last night to total their season errors to 101 in 113 games. This is second most in the International League. Lehigh Valley is not far behind them, with the fifth most miscues made adding up to 99 on the summer.

RODRÍGUEZ IS ROLLING - Yankees #3 prospect Elmer Rodríguez has been stellar with the RailRiders holding a 2.85 ERA in 17 starts. He has earned seven wins while striking out 87 batters. Rodríguez has allowed just 45 walks and five home runs in 85.1 innings. The number #72 overall prospect in Minor League Baseball has made four starts for a 4.76 ERA with the New York Yankees. Rodríguez was picked up in a trade with Boston for C Carlos Narváez in 2024.

SCHUEMANN SEND - Max Schuemann has hit the ball well since returning to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In six games, he has hit .400 with ten knocks, while driving in six runs. Schuemann has played in five different positions, taking care of both the infield and the outfield for Manager Shelley Duncan.

YANQUIEL GOES YARD - Yanquiel Fernández now leads the RailRiders in home runs with 20 and in runs batted in with 68. The homers are tied for ninth most in the International League while the RBIs are seventh most. The 23-year-old has upped his batting average to .253 after a hot start to July. Fernández was claimed off of waivers by the Yankees from Colorado in January and then was designated for assignment a few days later but was able to be outrighted to SWB.
