Nashville Sounds News Release
NASHVILLE- The Sounds dropped their second straight game to the Indianapolis Indians with a 3-2 extra-innings loss on Thursday night. After falling behind in the first, Nashville scored a pair of runs in the seventh before being held scoreless over the final three innings. The Sounds stranded 12 runners on base in the one-run loss (3-for-14 w/ RISP) and fall to 2-7 in extras this season.
Thomas Pannone allowed hits to each of the first three Indianapolis batters to start his night. A leadoff triple followed by a RBI double gave the Indians their first run of the night with a RBI single giving Indianapolis a 2-0 lead after one. It would stay that way until the bottom of the seventh. Pannone ended his start after three innings, allowing just three hits and two runs while recording three strikeouts. Right-hander Garrett Stallings piggy-backed Pannone and also worked three innings, surrendering just one hit with five strikeouts.
Rehabbing Joel Kuhnel tossed a scoreless top of the seventh with a hit allowed while facing five batters. Nashville's offense finally got going in the bottom of the seventh. Ethan Murray reached on one of three Indianapolis errors to start the inning and the Sounds played small ball from there. Consecutive bunt singles for Jacob Hurtubise and Eduardo Garcia loaded the bases with no outs. Brock Wilken delivered with a one-out, two-RBI single to even the score at 2-2.
Carlos Rodriguez pitched a 1-2-3 top of the eighth and worked around double to strand a runner in scoring position in the ninth. Garcia became the third Nashville batter with a multi-hit performance on a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth, but a fielder's choice and double play sent the game to extras.
Blake Holub pitched the top of the 10th for Nashville. A productive ground out moved the placed runner to third ahead Joshua Palacios who chopped a ball over the outstretched glove of Blake Burke for a RBI double to give the Indians a 3-2 lead. Holub responded with back-to-back strikeouts to keep it a one-run game for Nashville to try and answer in the bottom half of the inning.
With Wilken starting at second base, Burke drew a walk to reach base for a second time and sent Tuesday's walk-off hero Akil Baddoo to the plate with the go-ahead run on base. Baddoo laced a ball into straightaway center and over the head of Mitch Jebb. It was a long single for Baddoo off the base of the center field wall with Wilken and Burke advancing 90-feet to load the bases with no outs. Nashville squandered the scoring chance with a pair of infield fly pop outs and a strikeout for Michael Darrell-Hicks to earn his first win of the season for Indianapolis after pitching a scoreless ninth and 10th inning.
Wilken (2-for-5, 2 RBI), Darrien Miller (2-for-4, 2B), and Garcia (2-for-3, BB) finished with multi-hit games for the Sounds. Stallings (3.0 IP, H, 5 K), Kuhnel (1.0 IP), Rodriguez (2.0 IP) and Holub (L, 1.0 IP, 2 K) combined to toss seven innings without an earned run allowed in the loss.
POSTGAME NOTES:
THERE'S A WILKEN THERE'S A WAY: Brock Wilken tallied his 17th game with 2+ RBI this season on Thursday night, ripping a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh and tying the game two apiece. He finished the night going 2-for-5, his ninth multi-hit game. The 17 multi-RBI games on the year are the most on the active roster, two ahead of Jeferson Quero (15). It was his second 2+ hit game of the week against Indianapolis and the seventh overall at home, which is tied for the second-most on the current club along with Luis Matos. The pair trail Jeferson Quero (9) for the most multi-hit games at home this season among current Nashville batters. Thursday night was the 56th multi-hit game of his minor league career since 2023. He ranks sixth in walks (69) and eighth in RBI (64) and doubles (19) in the Brewers farm system this season.
DON'T YOU DARRIEN: Darrien Miller extended his on-base streak to 17 consecutive games in Thursday's contest against the Indians, finishing the night going 2-for-4 with a double. The 17 games are the longest-active on-base streak on the team, eight games ahead of Luke Adams (9), and ties for the 7th-longest on-base streak this season for the Sounds. He has hit a .327 AVG (18-for-55), adding nine XBH, 13 RBI and six runs since July 5. He produced at least one hit in more than half of the games played during the on-base streak, including six 2-hit games. Miller has recorded 76 multi-hit games in his minor league campaign since 2019.
WHAT IT EDUARDO: Eduardo Garcia posted his fifth 2-hit game of the season for the Sounds in Thursday's game against Indianapolis, going 2-for-3 with a walk. It marked his second 2-hit game in the last four games and the 76th overall of his minor league career since 2019. Garcia continues to be a spark for Nashville of recent, posting a .277 (13-for-47), adding four XBH, five RBI and five runs since July 26 at Sugar Land. Since the start of his professional campaign in 2019, Garcia leads in total bases (748), ranks second in RBI (252) and doubles (98), ties for second in hits (472) and triples (17), third in runs (270) and eighth in homers (48) among Brewers' minor league hitters.
ON-BASE BURKE: Brewers no. 15-rated prospect Blake Burke went 1-for-4 with a walk on Thursday night to extend his current on-base streak to 29 straight games between Double-A Biloxi and Nashville. He finished his time with the Shuckers reaching in 26 straight beginning on July 8 and has reached in all three games with the Sounds. His 29-game on-base streak is the fifth longest among all full-season players in the farm system this year. Andrew Fisher reached base in 47 straight games between High-A Wisconsin and Biloxi while Josiah Ragsdale reached in 46 straight between Wisconsin and Biloxi as well. Milwaukee's no. 5-rated prospect Brady Ebel is riding a 31-game streak for Low-A Wilson and the longest active streak ahead of Burke. Brock Wilken posted a 30-game on-base streak for Nashville earlier this season.
