Woodpeckers Offense Pecks Away for 9-4 Win

North Augusta, SC - The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Houston Astros) came to SRP Park after taking five of their last six games from the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. They trailed early, but responded with nine runs and 13 hits for a 9-4 Tuesday night win over the Jackets. Augusta falls to 5-8, while Fayetteville goes to 7-6.
In the 2nd inning, Bryson Horne broke open the scoring with a single to bring home two. It was RBIs number five and six on the year for Augusta's first baseman. In the 3rd, the Woodpeckers got the scoring started. A three-run inning, highlighted by Zach Daniels triple gave Fayetteville the lead.
The Jackets tied it up though thanks to a home run from Willie Carter, his second of the year. Carter finished the night 2-for-4.
The Woodpeckers offense was just too much to deal with though. In the 4th, Shay Whitcomb's solo home run broke the tie to make it 4-3. Then it was Daniels to ground out making it 5-3. The inning continued when Matthew Barefoot doubled in a run, followed by a J.C. Correa single to advance the lead to 7-3.
Carter Linton entered out of the Jackets bullpen to strikeout six in just two innings of work.
The Jackets added one more on a Cade Bunnell triple in the 4th, but Brayan De Paula came out of the Fayetteville bullpen to toss four innings of scoreless baseball. The Woodpeckers finished it off for a 9-4 win. Fayetteville ends the night with five players collecting multi-hit contests.
NOTES:
* Willie Carter extended his on-base streak to 10 games.
* Justin Yeager has not allowed a run in five innings out of the GreenJackets bullpen.
* Carter Linton in two appearances and three innings has nine strikeouts this year.
