San Rafael Pacifics News Release
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - San Rafael Pacifics pitcher Dan Rogers did his part in a spot start and Johnny Woodard's seven RBIs gave Rogers all the run support needed with a 10-5 victory over the Santa Rosa Rose Buds for yet another series sweep.
Woodard (3-for-5, 7 RBIs, one run) drove home runner after runner and accounted for eight of the team's 10 runs on Friday night. After blasting a bases-clearing double in the second to give San Rafael a 6-1 lead, the first baseman drove home Zack Pace (3-for-4, three runs) with a single to right. He capped his career night with a three-run blast in the eighth inning. The ball cleared the right field fence and gave Woodard the Pacific Association lead with nine home runs.
"The last couple days, I've been feeling really good at the plate," said Woodard. "Danny has filthy stuff. We've seen him in relief and he stepped right in and did a good job for us."
Rogers (3-0) struck out five over five innings and walked two in his longest appearance of the season. After allowing a sacrifice fly RBI to VJ Emberselli in the second, the Pacifics stormed back in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back. Kyle Dhanani broke for home on a dribbler to the left side and slid under a swipe tag to tie the game on the fielder's choice and Darrick Hale walked with the bases loaded to put the Pacifics ahead 2-1.
"Our rotation so far has been phenomenal and to have the opportunity to come in and get a spot start meant a lot to me personally," said Rogers. "Having relieved a lot it was nice to stretch it out a little bit. It felt good and it's nice when the hitters come through and make it that much easier."
Santa Rosa made it 6-2 in the fourth on a Parker Shaw RBI single to center field, then cut the lead in half on a Brian Muton RBI single in the fifth. A Muton groundout in the seventh and Sam Bruno drove home Mike Miller in the ninth.
Pacifics reliever Ross Pomerantz surrendered runs in the seventh and ninth but recorded his second save, that of the rare four-inning variety. He struck out a pair and in the eighth was helped out by his defense. Catcher Kevin Reinking made a snap throw to Kyle Dhanani to catch Danny Dyler stealing third.
The Santa Clara Dynasty make their only visit of the season to Albert Park on Saturday, August 3 at 5:00 p.m. The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a 2013 Pacifics trading card set courtesy of Silicon Valley Staffing. Tickets are still available at www.pacificsbaseball.com.
