San Rafael Pacifics News Release
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - San Rafael Pacifics pitcher Logan Odom rebounded from a shaky first inning and improved to 8-0 as the widened their first-place lead back to five games with a 5-2 victory over the Santa Clara Dynasty in the two teams' only matchup of the regular season.
Odom, who entered with a 1.70 ERA, allowed a pair runs in the first. It was the first time dating back to a June 14 win over Vallejo that the hard-throwing righty has given up more than one run in an inning. Odom settled down after that, allowing just two hits beyond the first inning, and struck out three to maintain his Pacific Association lead in strikeouts (76), wins (8), and ERA (1.76).
"I kinda got away from myself in the first inning but [catcher Matt] Kavanaugh behind the dish today did a really good job of getting me back in the zone and helping me focus," said Odom. "My fastball command wasn't there but he was there to bring me back in the zone."
Early on, the Pacifics capitalized on Santa Clara's defensive miscues. Leadoff man Price Kendall and Johnny Woodard scored in the bottom half of the first to quickly negate the Dynasty lead.
San Rafael (42-14) went ahead in the fourth on an RBI double by Danny Gonzalez, whose heads up baserunning allowed him to advance to third on a Kavanaugh foul pop-up. Gonzalez scored easily on Darrick Hale's deep single to shortstop.
Gonzalez drove in his third run of the day with a single in the eighth.
Colin Allen slammed the door for his 11th save of the season with a perfect ninth that included two strikeouts.
"They took a lead and I wasn't worried about it, I knew we were going to come back," said Gonzalez. "We're the kind of team, you can't hold us down. We just feel confident that we can win any game."
On Sunday, the East Bay Lumberjacks return to San Rafael. The Lumberjacks won 7-2 on Friday and dropped Saturday's game 5-4 in 11 innings, both at Vallejo. First pitch is 1:15 p.m.
The first 300 fans at the park on Sunday will receive frisbees courtesy of Animal Wellness Center. Before the game, seven of the Golden Gate Club will showcase their "Disc Dogs" and dogs will be available for adoption from the Milo Foundation. It is also the last day of the Pacifics' "The Kids Are Back in Town" promotion, where kids get in free with the purchase of an adult ticket. That deal is only available in person at the Guarantee Mortgage Ticket Booth.
