Wolves Set Date to Retire Wolves Alumni Rod Schutt #8

(Greater Sudbury, ON) The Sudbury Wolves are thrilled to announce that November 2nd , 2018 during
the pre-game ceremony, the Wolves will honour the Single Season Scoring record holder, Rod Schutt by retiring his #8, during his Wolves Career from 1973-1976. Schutt notched the record of 72 goals during the 1975-76 season when the Wolves put together a team that lost only 11 times during the regular season and were the favourites to win the Memorial Cup before the Hamilton Fincups upset them in the OHL Finals. The team is well renowned with Sudbury Wolves history and full of players that went on to successful NHL and Professional Hockey Careers.
"This is an honour and a privilege to share with my family and friends as I reflect on my junior and professional hockey career," said Schutt. "I was surprised and honoured when the Wolves organization contacted me but as the day gets closer there is a real sense of community and pride that I feel and look forward to the evening."
Joining Schutt for the Pregame ceremony will be his wife Rita, and children Megan (Trent Taylor) and Christen (Alex Booth). In addition, teammates, Wes Jarvis, John Baby, Ron Duguay are expected to attend as well as Randy Carlyle, Dave Farish, among other teammates via video during the pre-game ceremony. In addition to Carlyle's 6 and Duguay's 10, Mike Foligno 17 and Dale Hunter 15 are also retired Wolves numbers.
"We are so proud of the Wolves heritage and the players who have contributed to the club's importance in our city," said Dario Zulich, Owner and Governor of the Sudbury Wolves. "Rod is an amazing example of achievement and commitment to our community and we are looking forward to the ceremony."
Schutt retired from hockey in 1986 after playing 10 years of professional hockey featuring over 300 National Hockey League regular season and play-off games. His efforts with the Wolves between 1973 and 1976 saw the young Schutt, known as Shooter, grow with an impressive Wolves Squad that culminated in his 72 goal, 1975-76 season. Rod retired to Sudbury to begin a successful career in construction and home renovations.
During the evening, musical guest will feature local talent and GO WOLVES GO singer song writer Andy Lowe before the game and during the game on the, brand new, Queen's stage powered by M.I.C. located in section 9. In addition to the special pre-game ceremony and honouring of #8, the Wolves will don feature Hunting Safety Jerseys and game worn jersey auction with proceeds going to the Northern Cancer Foundation. On Shooter's night (Rod's nickname), the Wolves will be #HUNTINGFORACURE.
