Mohegan Wolves News Release

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (November 13th, 2002) – Today the Mohegan Wolves (arenafootball2) announced that Mark Stoute, an Arena Football League veteran with strong Connecticut ties, was named the second head coach in team history. The news came at a press conference held this afternoon at the Pompeii & Caesar Restaurant at Mohegan Sun.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity ahead," said Stoute, who will also serve as the team's Director of Football Operations. "It feels good to be back home in Connecticut coaching for the Wolves. I look forward to the challenge of building the Wolves into a winning football team."

The Windsor, CT resident replaces Gary Porter, who led Mohegan to a 3-13 record in 2002. Prior to his appointment with the Wolves, Stoute spent the past two seasons as the Head Coach and General Manager of the Toronto Phantoms (AFL).

In 2001, Toronto's inaugural season in Canada, Stoute led the Phantoms to an 8-6 regular season record and the Eastern Division Championship. Before the Phantoms were born, they were known better around Connecticut as the New England Sea Wolves. Stoute served as the Sea Wolves Director of Football Operations/Player Personnel in the team's two-year tenure in Hartford (1999-2000).

Stoute, 45, got his first taste of Arena Football in 1995 when he signed on with the Connecticut Coyotes as the Assistant Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach. In 1996, Stoute made the switch to the offensive end, taking a job with the Charlotte Rage as their Offensive Coordinator and Receivers Coach.

His initial experience in roster management came in 1997 when he served as the Florida Bobcats' Director of Player Personnel and Offensive Assistant. Stoute spent two years (1997-1998) with the Florida franchise before making a return to Connecticut. Stoute, a native of Barbados, made his coaching debut in 1992 working with the special teams unit at Southern Connecticut State University.

He played his college football at Kentucky State where he was a four-year letterman as a kicker. After college, Stoute spent some time in the USFL with the New Jersey Generals and Boston Breakers.

The new coach is also excited about the potential benefits of having Mohegan Sun Arena, a first-class facility, as the Wolves home den.

"I think our arena (Mohegan Sun Arena) is the premier facility in all of af2," explained Stoute. "It's a beautiful place. It should really help us recruit some top-level talent from around the area."

Catch the Wolves second season of hard-hitting action at the Mohegan Sun Arena, beginning in April. For information on holiday season ticket specials, please contact the Mohegan Wolves office at 860.443.1900 or visit them on the web at www.moheganwolves.com.
