San Diego Riptide News Release

SAN DIEGO – It didn't take long for 5-foot-8 David McClurg to dominate last Friday night's game versus Bonita Vista and earn Week 10 sandiegoriptide.com High School Ironman of the Week honors.

Four plays into the game, the Chula Vista RB/LB blitzed through the Barons offensive line to record his first of six sacks. On the play, he forced a fumble that he'd return 20 yards for the game's opening score that sparked a 27-0 run and an eventual 41-12 win over their Mesa League rivals.

His six sacks tie a school record. He also added 18 tackles (24 if sacks are included). Offensively, he carried the ball just twice, but for 47 yards.

As the second half began with the Spartans up 21-0, McClurg returned the opening kick 85 yards for a touchdown to put the game away.

"David's a pretty intense player and a great competitor no matter what the situation," said Chula Vista Head Coach Rex Johnson. "He's been a great addition (he was with Castle Park High last year) and we're ecstatic that he have a player of his caliber on this team."

Chula Vista's regular season finale is this Friday as they host Hilltop at 7pm.
