Chicago Wolves News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Chicago Wolves forward Kenny Agostino scored late on the power play to forge a tie, but the Charlotte Checkers replied with less than a second remaining in regulation to take a 4-3 victory on Tuesday night at Bojangles' Coliseum.
Agostino, Landon Ferraro and Morgan Ellis scored and Magnus Paajarvi notched 3 assists for the Wolves (6-8-1-1) in their first of back-to-back games in Charlotte. Goaltender Pheonix Copley (2-3-1) stopped 24 of 28 shots.
The Checkers (8-6-1-) struck first at 5:16 of the first frame when left wing Connor Brickley nabbed his first goal of the season.
The Wolves responded on the power play at 10:28 of the first period. Paajarvi fed a pass back to Brad Hunt rushing to the point for a one-time shot. Landon Ferraro deflected Hunt's shot past Checkers goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic (2-4-0) to knot the game 1-1.
The Wolves took a brief lead at 7:03 of the second period on Ellis' goal, but the Checkers scored two unanswered goals to jump back in the lead 3-2. At 10:43 of the middle stanza, Haydn Fleury picked up his first marker of the season to tie the game. Five minutes later, Fleury and Andrew Miller set up Phil Di Giuseppe for Charlotte's third tally of the contest.
With 1:41 left in regulation and the Wolves on the power play, Agostino camped on Nedeljkovic's doorstep and knocked in a Paajarvi shot from the right circle to tie the game, 3-3. However, the Wolves took a penalty with 10 seconds left and Charlotte's Patrick Brown scored the game-winning power-play goal with less than a second on the clock.
Nedeljkovic stopped 24 shots for the victory.
The Wolves and Checkers face off against at 6 p.m. Wednesday inside Bojangles' Coliseum to wrap up Chicago's two-game road trip. The game will stream live on AHLLive.com. For complete 2016-17 game and broadcast schedules, visit ChicagoWolves.com.
