Mohegan Wolves News Release
NEW LONDON, Conn. (March 6, 2003) - The Mohegan Wolves (arenafootball2) have added four players to their 2003 training camp roster, it was announced today by the arenafootball2 league office, including former New York Giants defensive back Andre Weathers.
Weathers, originally a sixth round draft choice of the Giants in 1999, saw action in nine games during his rookie season with New York before tearing his anterior cruciate ligament. Prior to the injury, Weathers was a solid contributor on special teams and in nickel and dime defensive packages, registering 12 tackles (10 solo), one interception and one fumble recovery. The 6-0, 190-pound Michigan alum also appeared in one game with the Giants in 2000.
Wolves Head Coach Mark Stoute said the team's Director of Player Personnel, Chris Bauer, was instrumental in finding Weathers, who will come to camp as one of the team's top defensive specialists.
"Bringing in an NFL player like Andre is a true testament to the type of job our Director of Player Personnel, Chris Bauer, is doing," Stoute said. "Andre is a quality individual and a true professional. His presence and leadership skills will be a tremendous help to our younger guys.
In addition to Weathers, Mohegan was also assigned FB/LB Phillip Sissner, OL/DL Charlie Cook and OL/DL Steven Lindsey.
Sissner, a Stamford native, has spent the past four years playing professionally in Europe. Most recently, the 1998 Northeastern graduate spent the 2002 season with the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe, appearing in all 10 games. The 6-2, 240-pound Sissner also played for NFL Europe's Barcelona Dragons in 2001. Cook's most recent professional exposure came last year with the New Haven Ninjas. This season the 6-0, 290-pound lineman from C.W. Post will be looking to make his mark up front with the Wolves. Lindsey is the youngest of the pack, capping off an impressive college career at Duquesne University in 2001. The 6-5, 300-pound Pittsburgh native' s collegiate resume includes being named a two-time first team All-Metro Atlantic Conference selection. Lindsey also earned All-American mention from both The Sports Network and Don Hansen's Football Gazette following his senior campaign.
The Wolves kick off their 2003 season on Sat., April 5, vs. the Rochester Brigade at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Mohegan Sun Arena is the premier entertainment venue in Connecticut. Major sporting events, including championship boxing, professional basketball, tennis and bowling, along with world-renowned entertainers such as Tim McGraw, Gloria Estefan, Janet Jackson and Aerosmith have performed in this 10,000-seat venue.
