Seattle Storm News Release

SEATTLE, Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 - The 2010 WNBA Western Conference Champion Seattle Storm will raise its flag atop Seattle's most iconic symbol, the Space Needle, tomorrow, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. Storm players, coaches and staff members along with Storm CEO Karen Bryant and members of Force 10 Hoops L.L.C. will be in attendance for the memorable event.

The 20x30 ft. green flag bearing the Storm's logo is also marked with the names of more than 6,000 Storm fans. On Wednesday, Aug. 25, the Storm unveiled a new KeyArena banner dedicated to the fans and their continued energy, passion and support for the team boasting the team's "We Are Home Court Advantage" mantra. Much like the KeyArena banner, the raising of the Storm flag is a dedication to the fans.

"We are honored to have the opportunity to fly the Storm flag atop the Space Needle," said Karen Bryant, Storm CEO. "The Space Needle is a symbol of the city the Storm will proudly represent in the upcoming WNBA Finals, and we couldn't think of a more appropriate way to acknowledge our fans."

The Storm will be making its second appearance in the WNBA Finals in franchise history beginning this Sunday, Sept. 12 with a 12 noon matchup against the Atlanta Dream. In 2004, the Storm defeated the Connecticut Sun two out of three games and was crowned the WNBA's champion - Seattle's first pro sports championship in 25 years.

Finishing the regular season at 28-6 (17-0 at home), the Storm secured the WNBA's best overall record and home-court advantage throughout the 2010 WNBA Playoffs with an 80-70 victory over their Finals opponent, the Dream, on Tues., Aug. 10. The team's 17-0 home record is the WNBA's best since the league moved to a 34-game regular season schedule. The Storm swept the Los Angeles Sparks and the Phoenix Mercury in two games apiece in the first two rounds of the playoffs.

In other Storm-related news, the Team Shop located on the Seattle Center campus at 312 1st Ave. N. will be open on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase the official locker room Western Conference Championship T-shirt as well as "I Am Home Court Advantage" T-shirts before Sunday's game. Coach Brian Agler and Storm players Svetlana Abrosimova and Ashley Robinson will be in attendance to sign autographs after practice to the first 300 guests.
