Chicago Sky News Release
CHICAGO, December 8, 2009 - The Chicago Sky will make the 4th selection in the WNBA Dispersal Draft on Monday, Dec. 14 involving players from the Sacramento Monarchs.
All current Monarchs players, with the exception of unrestricted free agents Kara Lawson, Hamchetou Maiga-Ba and Ticha Penicheiro, are eligible to be selected in the Dispersal Draft.
"It's never a good thing to see a WNBA franchise fold," said Chicago Sky Head Coach and General Manager Steven Key. "However this opportunity does provide the Sky with a chance, before the college draft, to address player personnel needs."
The absence of Sacramento and Detroit's move to Tulsa will leave the WNBA with two six-team conferences. The WNBA will look to add another franchise in the Bay Area of California for the 2011 season.
The Dispersal Draft order is based on the inverse order of the 2009 regular season finish. New York will pick first, followed by Minnesota and Connecticut. San Antonio will follow Chicago to round out the top five.
