BISMARCK, ND - November 20, 2009 - The Dakota Wizards defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 97-91 tonight in a preseason game hosted by the Wizards in Hazelton, N.D.
The Wizards were hot early and jumped out to a 12-2 lead early in the first quarter, but the lead changed hands 10 times over the course of the game. The Wizards took the lead for good with 6:23 left in the fourth quarter after a lay-up from point guard Jason Straight.
The Wizards were led by Darren Cooper, who came off the bench to score 15 points in 22 minutes, including shooting 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Wizards forward Marcus Dove contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and five steals.
The visiting Skyforce were led by Reggie Williams, who scored 27 points in 31 minutes to go along with six rebounds. Greg Stiemsma had 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots in 25 minutes while battling foul trouble.
Keith Brumbaugh did not play due to injury.
The Wizards begin the season Saturday, November 28th against the expansion Maine Red Claws. The Skyforce begin their season Friday, November 27th against the Red Claws, before traveling to Dakota for a Sunday game with the Wizards on November 29th.
