Wizards win fourth straight

BISMARCK, N.D. March 11, 2008: The Dakota Wizards started fast and ended dominant as they defeated the Fort Wayne Mad Ants tonight 116 - 104 at the Bismarck Civic Center.

Dakota's strong defense held the Mad Ants to just two field goals in the first quarter to give the Wizards a lead over Ft. Wayne 32 -14 after one. Forward Rod Benson paced Dakota with his 19th double double of the season nailing 13 points and 12 rebounds in the first half giving Dakota a 20-point advantage 60-40 at the half. Benson finished the night with 16 points and 16 boards.

"It feels great to start the game with urgency", said Wizards head coach Duane Ticknor. " I was happy with a lot of things, Tony played amazing along with Will and Rod, it was a great team effort".

Dakota, now 23-16 on the season, had six guys finish in double figures including guard Blake Ahearns tremendous 16 point second half that gave him a game high 26 points to go with his eight assists. Guard Tony Gipson also had a break out game tonight grabbing his first double double of the season with 19 points and 10 assists. Forward Carlos Powell rebounded from Sunday nights nine-point evening with a 23 point showing tonight while forward Will Frisby hit 18 points off the bench.

Fort Wayne falls to 13-24 on the season and was led in scoring off the bench by forward Rob Griffin with 24 points, while guard Earl Calloway was the only starter to reach double figures with 14 points.

The two same teams battle again for the third straight game on Sunday the 16th, this time in Fort Wayne before Dakota head's back to Bismarck to face the Anaheim Arsenal for their only home meeting on Tuesday 18th.
