Sporting Kansas City News Release

Kansas City, MO - For the first time in the history of the organization, the Kansas City Wizards defeated a team for a fourth time in the regular season (in regulation) thanks to their 4-0 victory over the Columbus Crew at Arrowhead Stadium. The win vaulted Kansas City into third place in the Eastern Conference, just three points shy of the second-place New England Revolution.

Just as he did in their last meeting at Arrowhead on opening day, Wizards' forward Davy Arnaud gave the home side an early lead, putting the Wizards up 1-0 in the 4th minute on an assisted strike. Arnaud picked the ball off the feat of Crew defender Chris Leitch halfway between the penalty arc and the center circle. Arnaud took a couple of touches and unleashed a left-footed shot from 18-yards out just inside the left post for his second goal of the season.

Scott Sealy added to the Wizards' lead in the 17th minute with his team-second best fourth goal of the season to give Kansas City a 2-0 lead. Dave van den Bergh picked up the ball on the left flank and carried it up to about 10-yards off the touchline before curling in a low cross back out towards the penalty spot. Sealy got position on his defender and managed to poke the cross up and over Columbus goalkeeper Bill Gaudette and just under the cross bar. Playing in his fourth career MLS game the assist was van den Bergh's first in the league.

The Wizards continued their goal-scoring prowess in the second half, first with Sasha Victorine's third goal of the season in the 78th minute and ending with Ryan Pore's second goal of 2006 in the 89th minute. Victorine punched away a Jose Luis Burciaga Jr. corner kick that Gaudette mishandled in the 6-yard box, while Pore's was the result of a great individual effort almost identical to Arnaud's strike. Pore took the ball off his defender's feet about 30 yards out and took one touch before firing a 25-yard shot just inside the post, except his went to the right side upper-V to make it 4-0 Kansas City.

Only once in the history of the organization have the Wizards swept a season series before tonight. In 1997, Kansas City went 4-0-0 against the Colorado Rapids, however one of those wins came by way of the now defunct shootout system, meaning one of those game was actually tied at the end of regulation play, making tonight's win the only season sweep in regulation time.

Also, for the first time this season each of the Wizards' goal scoring-dependant game promotions were won thanks to Kansas City's offensive onslaught. With Arnaud's tally coming in the first 8:10, fans can take their ticket stub to the 810 Zone in Overland Park and receive a specially selected appetizer for free. Victorine's goal came during the Papa John's Magic Minutes, therefore all fans can redeem their stub for a free small one-topping pizza at Metro area Papa John's Restaurants. And whenever KC scores in a match every ticket holder (18-years and older) in one lucky row gets $50 worth of scratchers compliments of the Missouri Lottery.
