Wizards Sign Ryan Raybould and Daniel Dobson to Developmental Roster

KANSAS CITY, MO (Monday, March 28, 2005) - Kansas City Wizards General Manager Curt Johnson announced today the signings of midfielder Ryan Raybould and defender Daniel Dobson to the Wizards developmental roster. The duo join three Wizards draftees and two returning players on the developmental roster in advance of the 2005 MLS season opener this weekend.

"With an expanded regular season and our first ear of Reserve League play, the opportunities for young talented players have never been more abundant," said Johnson. "Each of these players will have the opportunity to develop under Bob Gansler and Brian Bliss. Both are fantastic teachers of the game and have helped us to develop many young players over the past five-plus seasons."

Raybould, a 21-year old midfielder, was a four year starter at Yale University, serving as the team captain his senior year. He started 65 of 66 games he appeared in during his collegiate career and was a first-team All-Ivy selection as a senior and a two-time honorable mention All-Ivy selection. A product of Leawood, Kansas, Raybould attended Rockhurst High School and helped lead his team to the Missouri State Final Four as a junior and senior, winning the State Championship during his junior year.

Dobson was a standout defender/midfielder for the University of Memphis. The 21 year old served as the Tigers captain his senior year and helped lead them to an impressive 16-3-1 record, capturing the Conference USA Championship and earning a berth in the NCAA tournament. As a senior, Dobson registered career highs for goals (5), assists (7) and points (17).

The duo join three other players on the Wizards developmental roster who were acquired during the MLS SuperDraft and Supplemental draft earlier this year including forward Ryan Pore and midfielders John-Minagawa-Webster and Doug Lascody.

Pore, a Generation adidas player, was drafted by the Wizards in the second round (16th overall) of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft. The 21-year-old led the nation in scoring as a junior at the University of Tulsa last fall and will be counted on to add depth to the Wizards front line.

Minagawa-Webster, 22, was selected in the fourth round (47th overall) of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft out of Michigan State. The young midfielder showed promise during the preseason but suffered a strained MCL in his right knee earlier this month and will miss another two weeks.

Lascody, a 21-year-old midfielder, was drafted in the third round (35th overall) of the 2005 MLS Supplemental draft. The Springfield, IL native was a solid contributor for Southwest Missouri State and was among the nations leaders in assists his senior year.

Two players who were part of the Wizards developmental roster last season have been re-signed and will join the developmental roster for the 2005 season. Forward Justin Detter, who was a fifth round pick by the Wizards in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft, and defender Brian Roberts, who was signed to the developmental roster in June of last year, will open the 2005 campaign on the Wizards 10-man reserve team.

Detter appeared in six regular season matches for Kansas City, including two starts. He also contributed during the Wizards run to the 2004 U.S. Open Cup Championship appearing in three of the four matched in the tournament and scored a goal against Dallas in the quarterfinals.

With the Wizards signing of 2004 A-League "Best XI" defender Dustin Branan last month, the Wizards current developmental roster is comprised of eight players. Each MLS team is allowed ten developmental players at one time and players can be added or released from the developmental roster at any time during the season.

The Kansas City Wizards will kickoff the 2005 MLS regular season this weekend against the Colorado Rapids, opening their 10th season at Arrowhead Stadium, with kickoff at 7:00 p.m. CT. The reigning Western Conference Champion Wizards begin a new era in 2005 as they move to and compete in the Eastern Conference for the first time. The Wizards join the Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew, D.C. United, the MetroStars and New England Revolution in the Eastern Conference, while the two expansion teams, CD Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake, join the Western Conference.
