Colorado Rapids News Release
The Three Amigos are Back: With Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Joe Cannon joining the team in Austin, TX on Wednesday, last week, three of the four Black and Blue players that were called into the United States National Team Camp by Head Coach Bruce Arena have returned to the club. The only two players left to join Fernando Clavijo's side are midfielder Pablo Mastroeni, who played 70 minutes in the United States' 2-1 World Cup Qualifying loss to Mexico at Azteca Stadium, and defender Hunter Freeman, who was with the USA Under-20 side at a tournament in South Korea. Both remaining players are expected to join the Rapids before the team's season opener against Kansas City on Saturday, April 2nd at Arrowhead Stadium.
International Gathering: With the signing of midfielders Alain Nkong and Terry Cooke and forward Wolde Harris, the Rapids have gathered players from 9 different countries on their current roster. The 10 different nationalities are represented as follows: Haitian striker Jean Philippe Peguero, Uruguayan midfielder Martin Morales, the Jamaican duo of Wolde Harris and Jeff Cunningham, Englishman Terry Cooke, Cameroonian International Alain Nkong, Israeli Defender Guy Melamed, Canada native Mark Chung and Argentina-born Pablo Mastroeni. With some of them having green cards and others having acquired United States citizenship, only four of them are considered Senior Internationals: Cooke, Melamed, Nkong and Morales.
Checking in with Kansas City: With the return of forward Wolde Harris to the Rapids, the Black and Blue will have three of the team's five most productive scorers against the Wizards in club history for Saturday's match. Chris Henderson has a lifetime six goals and six assists against Kansas City, while Harris holds a five goal, two assist record. Mark Chung holds an all-time record of four goals and two assists against the Wizards. It is interesting to note that all three players have also played for the Wizards at one time or another of their career.
