Sporting Kansas City News Release

Kansas City Wizards

Head Coach Brian Bliss

Thoughts on the win against FCD:

"Dallas has been good all year. They may be in a little bit of a slide right now, but they are still a good team when you look at the roster they have. I am sure they will get out of the slide they are in, just like we are getting out of the slide we were in. We need to make the best out of our remaining home games, and away games, but most importantly the home games. We needed to keep up the pace to stay with the other teams, and we needed to win tonight."

Thoughts on the defense's performance:

"The whole back line played well. There is an urgency to get the ball, an urgency to clear balls, and an urgency to find guys and lock guys up when services are coming into the box. Whether guys are more committed now than before, it's tough to say, but they are doing a better job of it. It's kind of disappointing that we did let some chances in at the end of the game where we fell asleep on a guy or two and let them get in on us. Bo [Oshoniyi] was there to rescue a couple plays that went aria for us."

Forward Scott Sealy

Thoughts on the forward's attack:

"All season we have been flip-flopping the forward and midfield lines which is tough to get the right combination of guys. With Josh Wolff out, we have been able to get a steady three guys in the attack as forwards. It is working out and tonight they were able to find me for the goal. It's all about playing together and forming a relationship."

Thoughts on his game-winning goal:

"As a forward, when you play with another guy, you need to anticipate that he will do something. I didn't expect [Eddie Johnson] to dummy it. You need to be ready. He was able to dummy the ball and I was able to react first. That is what you need to do, read the game and hope for the best. It feels good [to score]. As a forward there is nothing better than scoring goals. To see the team win and get three important points makes it even better. We need to come out and treat Wednesday like a final, and we need to get the win."

Goalkeeper Bo Oshoniyi

Thoughts on the defense's shutout performance:

"I think it was big for us. We let up some goals late in the Chivas USA game and other games as well. Tonight I think Shavar [Thomas], Jose [Burciaga], Nick [Garcia], and Matt [Groenwald] were solid back there. I was able to make a couple saves and we were able to get the result. I think it is something we can build on and ride this into Wednesday against New York."

Thoughts on the team's performance:

"The last four or five games now, even if we haven't gotten the results we still have been able to play well. I think tonight was the pinnacle of it and hopefully we can build off of this. It really won't mean much if we can't get a result on Wednesday. So I think this a big step in making Wednesday mean more."

Thoughts on rookie Matt Groenwald's performance against Carlos Ruiz:

"I thought he came on strong. He has been gone for a while with the birth of his child. I thought he was able to come on strong and really solidify things in the back. Carlos [Ruiz] is one of the best forwards in the league and Matt [Groenwald] wasn't intimidated at all. He came out there and did his job which helped us and the defense come out and get a result today."

FC Dallas' Quotes

Head Coach Colin Clarke

On FC Dallas' position in the standings

"Yeah, we could have had it go our way tonight. We had a rough one in the box and we had half a dozen that didn't go...but there are no excuses at the end of the day. We've got to get a victory and it didn't happen tonight."

Thoughts on the lineup change in the back tonight and how they played:

"We've given up some bad individual goals in the last few games and we thought it was time for a change. I thought the two boys in the back did well tonight. Overall they've done well. In the first half they got a little bit lucky on the goal when it deflected off someone's heel and deflected straight to them. Overall I felt pretty good."

On Scott Sealy's goal

"It was a ball in and Eddie [Johnson] that let it run, then it deflected off Clarence [Goodsen]'s heel when he let it run and it went straight to Sealy. It could have gone anywhere. It was a little bit of fortune for them."

"Bo [Oshoniyi] pulled off three or four good saves tonight and kept [us] blank tonight. We had chances right up to the last minute. It's not going our way at the minute, but there are no excuses. We've got to work harder...work harder on both sides of the ball as a group and fight through it together."

On Arturo Alvarez's stoppage time attempt:

"Like I said right up to the end we had chances. We had opportunities and in the end we've just got to be better than them."

Chris Gbandi

General thoughts on the match:

"Obviously it's a tough place to play. I thought we did a pretty good job holding them. They got one chance that was a pretty good chance and they finished it. We didn't really do a good job overall of creating stuff for the guys up front. That's what usually happens when you don't help the guys up front and they get a chance and usually finish it. We've just got to regroup and hopefully do better in Colorado."

Kenny Cooper

On their current situation:

"It starts to get in your head a little bit. I think we've got to have a positive mentality going forward. We have to start winning games again. I think we'll have a positive mentality going into those games."

On the numerous chances late in the match:

"Like I said the positive mentality. I think that we all believe that a goal will come, a goal will come and that's why we keep playing. That's why you play a full game. We're disappointed with the result obviously. We have an opportunity to make things right against Colorado, so hopefully we can do that."
