Glens Falls Dragons News Release
Glens Falls, NY - The Watertown Wizards picked up a crucial win tonight against the second place Glens Falls Golden Eagles 7-5. The Wizards have been on and off lately winning only three of their last eight games while the Golden Eagles had been on a hot streak winning seven of their last ten.
Tonight's game featured two average pitchers from both teams with something to prove. Cory Folk, for the Golden Eagles, went 5 and a third with five earned runs while Watertown's Ryan Dunn went 6 and a third with only four earned runs.
Through one inning of play both teams went one, two, three and the game remained close through the top of the third with it 1-0 in favor of Glens Falls. Then the Golden Eagles started the bottom of the third with four hits and a sacrifice to push across three runs.
Watertown had the answer in the top of the fourth. With Derek Hagy on base, Brandon Cipolla cracked a homer out to left center field to bring the Wizards within two. But, they weren't done there. Cole Gleason walked and moved to second when Chris Glynn delivered a double, which scored Gleason and put the Wizards within one run.
No runs were scored in the fifth but the sixth inning provided some excitement. Folk walked a few batters when Jake Doller came in to pitch. Peter Rajkovich battled from being down 0-2 and connected for a double down the left field line scoring two and giving the Wizards their first lead of the game.
The Golden Eagles then answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Alberto Morales drove his second home run of the season off the scoreboard to even the game at five.
The seventh inning would prove to hold the winning run. Cipolla again was the hero when he doubled to score Donald Walter for the eventual game winner. Then, for added measure, Gleason hit a sacrifice fly, which scored Hagy.
The Golden Eagles would come close in the bottom of the eighth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Jared Cheek flew out to center with Morales tagging from third. Morales was thrown out at the plate and what was originally no outs with the bases loaded quickly turned into two outs with runners on first and second.
Dunn gets his first win of the season and Jonathan Perez gets his second save, while Folk takes his first loss of the season.
The Golden Eagles are back in action tomorrow night to try and rebound against the Albany Dutchmen at 5 pm while the Wizards head to Mohawk Valley for their game at 5 pm also.
