Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs News Release


The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs were back at Veteran's Memorial Park Saturday night after having a scheduled off day on Friday night. Their opponents, the Cooperstown Hawkeyes, meanwhile are on a two game skid after losing to Albany on Friday night.

John Means (Fort Scott C.C) started for the DiamondDawgs with a 1-2 record and a 1.23 ERA while the Hawkeyes called on James Norwood (St. Louis) 2-3, 2.70 ERA. Means pitched seven innings picking up the win and gave up three hits, one earned run, and four walks and struck out eight. Aaron Casper (Canisius) pitched an inning giving up three hits, two earned runs and a walk and Eddie Fitzpatrick (Brown) also put an inning of work giving up a hit and picking up two strikeouts.

Norwood (St. Louis) picked up the loss in six innings giving up five hits, three earned runs, and three walks, hit a batter and struck out three. Josh Ingham (Central Connecticut State) came in for 1/3 of an inning and was scorched for six hits, seven runs and a walk. Daniel Hyatt (Louisburg) relieved him for 1 2/3 innings and gave up two hits, an earned run, and a walk and picked up two strikeouts.

The DiamondDawgs were lead by Eddie Sorondo (Delaware State) who homered going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI. The box score for the rest of the DiamondDawgs was as follows: Tyler Heck (Union) was 2 for 5 with a double, run scored, two RBI and a stolen base; Chris Cruz (Cornell) was 1 for 4 with a run scored; David Del Grande (Sacramento State) was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored; Jack Morrow (Young Harris) went 2 for 4, scored a run and had two RBI; Mark Stuckey (Marist) went 1 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI; Eric Helmrich (Marist) was 1 for 4 with a run scored an RBI; Tom Valichka (Young Harris) went 1 for 4 with a double and two RBI and Joe Carcone (Bryant) was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

The offense for the Hawkeyes came from Tyler Mautner (Buffalo) who homered and went 1 for 3 with a run scored and two RBI; Chris Blanton (Cal State Monterey Bay) who went 2 for 4 and Coleman Barron (Davidson) who went 1 for 2 with a double, two walks and a run scored.

The final score was Mohawk Valley 10 and Cooperstown 2,

The DiamondDawgs return home on Tuesday night against the Newark Pilots for a 7:05 game.
