Sporting Kansas City News Release
The Kansas City Wizards look to continue their recent momentum with a match Saturday against Real Salt Lake, the 2009 MLS Cup Champions, who currently sit in 2nd place in the Western Conference. The Wizards are 2-0-1 in their last three MLS games, including a pair of 1-0 shutouts versus the Columbus Crew (1st in the East) and Toronto FC (3rd in the East). Real Salt Lake enters the match 9-1-3 in their last 13 MLS games.
Rookie striker Teal Bunbury has been a productive addition to the starting lineup. Bunbury has started four straight matches since July 14, including Kansas City's 2-1 over English powerhouse Manchester United July 25. Bunbury has scored two goals, both game-winners, over that stretch and excelled in the center forward spot at the head of Kansas City's 4-3-3 formation. His hold-up play against United led to the opening goal by Davy Arnaud.
Goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen has continued his strong debut MLS season during the stretch, posting shutouts against Columbus and Toronto FC. Nielsen was named an MLS All-Star due to his stellar play over the first half of the season. He twice won NAPA Save of the Week honors during July and made another outstanding stop Saturday against TFC Designated Player Mista to keep his 7th shutout of the year. Nielsen also made multiple excellent saves against Manchester United in the victory.
Saturday's game will be telecast live in HD on KCWE Channel 29 and broadcast over the airwaves on La Gran D 1340 AM. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 1-888-4KC-GOAL or visiting www.kcwizards.com .
