Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

CLINTON, IA -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers built a 5-1 lead against the Clinton LumberKings on Thursday night at Alliant Energy Field. It was just enough as they held on for a 5-4 win. The Rattlers scored four times on a single, double, triple, and homer in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie. Kyle Parker picked up the win with some solid relief work and Andrew Barb did what he does to finish off the LumberKings in the ninth.

Joe White's infield grounder drove in Calvin Beamon from third base in the first inning to give the Rattlers (50-83 overall, 28-37 second half) a 1-0 lead.

But, Clinton (68-65, 27-39) tied the game in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by Mauro Gomez.

Wisconsin untied the game in the top of the third and hit for the cycle as a team for good measure. Ron Garth started the inning with a single. Reed Eastley blasted a home run to right to give the Rattler a 3-1 lead. White was next and he walked. A double by Lo sent White around to third. An infield grounder by Jamie McOwen drove in White. Leury Bonilla capped the inning with a triple to left-center and Lo scored for a 5-1 lead.

Rattler starter Harold Williams reached his pitch limit after three innings and Parker replaced him to start the fourth. Parker retired the first ten batters he faced before giving up back-to-back singles. Parker got a strikeout for the second out. Then, Wisconsin brought in lefty Mike Wagner to face left-hand hitter Marcus Lemon.

Lemon sent a grounder back through the legs of Wagner for an infield single to load the bases. Jose Vallejo drove a single to right on the next pitch from Wagner for a pair of RBI and his third hit of the game. Chad Tracy was next and he struck out but reached on a wild pitch that loaded the bases. Gomez, who leads Clinton in homers with 21, stepped to the plate. But, Wagner struck out Gomez to end the Clinton seventh.

Wagner worked a 1-2-3 eighth to keep the Rattlers in front. In the ninth, Barb entered the game and struck out pinch-hitter Josh Bradbury. Then, Chris Kemp, the second straight pinch-hitter for Clinton, launched a home run down the right field line to cut the Rattler lead to one run.

Barb closed out the LumberKings by striking out Lemon and Vallejo. The right-hander reliever earned his tenth save in ten save opportunities.

The Timber Rattlers play their final road game of the season on Friday night. Wisconsin has Tony Butler (3-7, 4.99) as their scheduled starting pitcher. Clinton plans on sending Zach Phillips (11-6, 2.78) to the mound. Game time is 6:00pm.
