
Winterhawks' Matt Bardsley Named General Manager of the Kamloops Blazers

The Portland Winterhawks announced today that Winterhawks' Assistant General Manager, Matt Bardsley, has accepted an offer to serve as the new General Manager of the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League.
"We are excited for Matt and his family as he transitions into the General Managers role in Kamloops," said Winterhawks Head Coach, General Manager and Vice President, Mike Johnston.
"He played an integral part in building our championship teams. We will definitely miss him here in Portland."
Bardsley has been with the Winterhawks organization for nearly 20 years, initially joining the team as an Area Scout in 1999. In 2007, he was promoted to Winterhawks' Director of Player Personnel and eventually made his way through the organization to Assistant General Manager in 2013.
During his time in Portland, the Winterhawks' have claimed four U.S. Division titles, five Western Conference Championships and were crowned WHL Champions in 2013. Bardsley has also been an integral part in Portland's success in the WHL Bantam Draft, playing a key role in the selection of several notable Winterhawks' including Brendan Leipsic, Nic Petan, Taylor Leier, Cody Glass, and many others.
"I have been extremely blessed to have worked for such a tremendous franchise in Portland for the past nineteen years," said Bardsley. "To the owners, management, coaches, scouts, trainers, equipment managers, billets, teachers, team doctors, former and current players along with their parents, I can't thank you enough for making me feel like family."
Bardsley continued, "To all the fans who consistently filled the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and Moda Center, thank you for always supporting our team."
"A special thank you to Ken Hodge who gave me an opportunity to join his scouting staff back in 1999 and to learn the art of scouting. And to Mike Johnston, who in 2008 took a chance on me to continue with the organization and provided me with support and guidance which has led to this next step in my career."
