Portland Winterhawks News Release

Saturday, November 10th was a special night for the Portland Winterhawks; they had a big win with the Kelowna Rockets 3-0 in the Moda Center, it was also the annual Military Salute Night to honor active and retired members of the armed forces.

Of the over 8,000 fans in attendance, more than 1,000 represented all of the local branches of the military and their families. Among the honors of the night, were Puck Drop participant and Boeing Hometown Hero, Executive Officer of the National Guard, Meleji Meekisho. He received his commission through the University of Oregon's Reserve Officers' Training Corps & was activated for Wildland Firefighting Operations!

Our military appreciation continued Sunday as we battled the Rockets for the second straight night, this time in the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Veterans Day. The Winterhawks honored Franchesca Spann, a scholarship recipient of the Folds of Honor Foundation. She was joined by Miss Oregon Taylor Ballard for an on-ice pre-game ceremony. The Winterhawks completed their weekend sweep as they defeated Kelowna 4-2 and improved to a 5-game win-streak.

A special thank you to our Veterans who came out to support the Winterhawks, and our partner sponsors who made their recognition possible. The Winterhawks along with The Boeing Company, Budweiser, Washman, Security Signs, City Center Parking and Penny's Salsa thank all Veterans for their service.
