Winterhawks Defeat Silvertips, 3-0

Portland, OR - The Everett Silvertips were shutout by Mac Carruth and the Winterhawks 3-0 Tuesday night at Memorial Coliseum in Portland. Carruth stopped all 26 Everett shots to collect his first career WHL shutout. Thomas Heemskerk stopped 37 of 40 shots for the Silvertips in a strong effort against the Winterhawks. The loss snaps an 11 game streak of earning at least one point per game for the Silvertips and is Everett's first regulation loss since February 12th. Everett remains tied for first place in the Western Conference and U.S. Division with the Tri-City Americans.

Portland's Ty Rattie started the scoring at 12:09 of the first period Tuesday night. Rattie scored his 17th goal of the season after collecting a feed from Spencer Bennett to make the score 1-0. Everett outshot Portland 10-9 after 20 minutes of play.

After a scoreless second period, Bennett increased Portland's lead to two just 27 seconds into the third. Capitalizing on a power play, Bennett took a feed from Chris Francis in front and beat Heemskerk up high for his 19th of the year. Luca Sbisa finished the scoring for Portland at 5:34 after a wrist shot from the point hit the crossbar and went in to conclude a 3-0 Winterhawks win.

This brings the 'Tips record to 44-20-3-2 with 93 points in 69 games played. The Silvertips head to Comcast Arena for a two game home stand starting this Friday against the Seattle Thunderbirds at 7:35 pm. Saturday the Silvertips take on the Chilliwack Bruins for the final home game of the regular season at 7:05 pm.
