Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, congratulate former forward Marian Hossa on his official induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

After being selected in the first round, 12th overall in the 1997 NHL Draft by Ottawa, the Senators sent Hossa to Portland after seven games in the NHL to develop on and off the ice. Hossa, the Winterhawks fifth overall pick in the 1997 CHL Import Draft, skated in 53 regular-season games during the 1997-98 season and recorded 45 goals and 40 assists for 85 points in that span. A native of Stara Lubovna, Slovakia, Hossa also joined his national team for the 1998 IIHF World Junior Championship for six games and notched eight points at the tournament.

Known for his two-way skill set, Hossa was a key figure in Portland's run to the 1998 Memorial Cup Championship, recording 19 points in 16 playoff games to help the Hawks earn their second and most recent Memorial Cup title. After playing such an important role in Portland's success during that season, Hossa was inducted into the Portland Winterhawks Hall of Fame in 2018 as one of four inductees in his class.

Hossa rejoined the Senators in the following year and played for Ottawa until the 2005-06 season, when he was dealt to the Atlanta Thrashers. After his time in Atlanta, Hossa quickly moved to the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings in subsequent seasons, venturing to the Stanley Cup Final with both clubs, before settling into his most iconic role with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Hossa spent the final eight seasons of his career in Chicago and helped lead the club to three Stanley Cups in six seasons during his tenure. Hossa retired ahead of the 2017-18 season after a sterling 19-year career in the NHL which saw him amass 1,134 points in 1,309 games.

Hossa becomes the third Winterhawk to make it to the Hall of Fame, joining forwards Cam Neely and Mark Messier.
