Regina, Sask. - Regina Pats captain Logan Nijhoff wins a lot of face-offs, and this season, it'll help more than just his team on the ice.

Last week, Nijhoff announced he is teaming up with Extreme Hockey for a campaign to support Hockey Gives Blood, where every face-off he wins this season will donate money towards HGB and Canadian Blood Services.

Extreme Hockey will be donating $1 for every face-off Nijhoff wins this season, which the Pats will be matching at the end of the year. Nijhoff, his billets Brad and Suzi Degelman, and his parents Jacques and Jenny, will each be donating 50 cents for every face-off win during the 2021-22 season.

"I've had family members and friends who have all needed blood, so I want to try and help out how I can," Nijhoff said. "I figured it's one of my strengths on the ice and it's something I'll be able to contribute with, so that's the first thing that came to my mind."

Hockey Gives Blood was founded in 2018 by former hockey players after the Humboldt Broncos crash. It is a non-profit society that has partnered with the Canadian Blood Services in an effort to engage and educate the hockey community about the importance of blood and stem cell donation.

"Our ultimate goal is to get donors out whether it's your first time or 50th time, there is always a need for blood in every community in Canada," Nijhoff said. "If you're financially open to it, you can donate if you're not comfortable donating blood."

So far, the Comox, B.C., native has already won 230 face-offs in 16 games, putting him on pace for just shy of 1,000 face-off wins by the end of the season. Nijhoff is one of four CHL players that are teaming up with HGB for a fundraising campaign this season, according to their website. Kamloops Blazers forward Logan Stankoven and Owen Sound Attack forward Andrew Perrott are each doing a points campaign, while Blazers goaltender Dylan Garand is doing a saves campaign.
