Home Again, Home Again
Welcome back to the VMC, Winterhawks fans! After almost three weeks, it's finally a Hawks home game day once again, and it's the first of many between now and Christmas. As Portland tries to find its footing in the U.S. Division, starting this 11-game homestand on the right foot is crucial. With a full building and the comforts of their own facilities, the Hawks are sure to come out firing as they look to take down the division's top team.
But despite Everett's strong play this year, Portland remains the only team to top the 'Tips in any fashion - the last time these two clubs met, Portland erased a 3-0 deficit en route to a rousing 4-3 shootout victory. Look for plenty of energy and an emphasis on 60-minute consistency as the Hawks look to clean up some of last week's blemishes against Seattle and Tri-City.
Luca Gets His First
Congratulations to defenseman Luca Cagnoni, who lit the lamp for the first time as a Winterhawk on Saturday against Tri-City! Cagnoni pounced on a rebound late in the second period of Saturday's tilt to score his first goal in the WHL, but he has already proven to be an impact player for Portland elsewhere. The native of Burnaby, B.C. ranks sixth on the team in scoring with six helpers to go with his goal last weekend, and is quickly establishing himself along the Hawks' blue line.
Dureau-Em-Gee
Portland's leading scorer from the 2019-20 season, Jaydon Dureau, rejoined the team on its recent road trip, and is expected to make his 2021-22 home debut tonight against Everett. After notching 31 points in 24 games last year and starting this season with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch, the former fifth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning is off to another strong start with three points in four games on the year, including this shorthanded beauty against Tri-City last weekend:
Be there to welcome Jaydon back to the VMC!
