High Desert Mavericks News Release
November 22, 2004 - Over the weekend, the High Desert was hit with a freak storm which dumped up to two feet of snow in parts of the High Desert.
Friendly Mavericks Stadium is covered in the wintery white stuff and continued to get more snow on Monday.
In an effort to capitalize on the new snow, the Mavericks are considering changing their name. Some ideas for a new nickname are the Penguins, the Abominable Snowmen, the IceBergs, Snow Angels and the Nuts. The Mavericks current Mascot Wooly Bully will be replaced with Wooly Mammoth.
2005 opening day will also be moved to April 1.
