
Winter Hawks\' Coburn to Play in Canada â Russia Series

CALGARY, AB â Portland Winter Hawks' defenseman, and team captain, Braydon Coburn was named today to play for the Western Hockey League in the Canada â Russia Series.
Coburn, a 1st round draft choice of the Atlanta Thrashers who signed an NHL contract this summer, is off to the best start in his Winter Hawks career with 4 goals, 6 assists and 10 points in his first 10 games. Coburn has (2-4-6) in his last 2 games, scoring twice in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Vancouver Giants in Memorial Coliseum.
The series will feature Team WHL taking on the Russian Selects in games in Red Deer at the Enmax Centrium on Wednesday, December 1st and in Lethbridge on Thursday, December 2nd, 2004 at the Enmax Centre.
Canada's top players under 20 years old have been invited to Canada's 2004 National Junior Team Selection Camp December 11-18, 2003, in Kitchener, Ontario. All 23 players currently named to Team WHL attended Canada's National Junior Team Evaluation Camp in August. Additional players will be added to Team WHL roster in mid-November.
Brent Sutter, Head Coach of the Red Deer Rebels, has been named Head Coach of Team WHL. Sutter will also serve as Head Coach of Team Canada for the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championships in North Dakota. The assistant coaches will be named at a later date.
The RE/MAX Canada/Russia Challenge Series represent the final opportunity to evaluate WHL players prior to Canada's National Junior Team selection camp in mid-December. The series will involve a total of six games across Canada in late November and early December.
