Game #14 (Road Game #8)

DYKSTRA, DASH NAB SERIES VICTORY

Wednesday starter James Dykstra turned in another tremendous start in the Dash's 4-2, series-clinching win over the Carolina Mudcats in front of 6,254 fans at BB&T Ballpark. Dykstra permitted just one run on five hits over seven innings. He whiffed four and did not walk a batter for his third win in as many tries in 2015. Righty Jose Brito followed Dykstra and earned Winston-Salem's second save of the season (2.0 IP, 1R/ER, 3H). Offensively, the Dash plated all four of their runs in the first four frames.

FIRST TO THREE

Among Carolina League hurlers, only Dykstra and Salem's Jake Dahlstrand have won three games. In 20 innings of work, Dykstra has only given up one run on six hits. His earned run average (0.45) and WHIP (0.35) pace all CL hurlers, while those numbers place him 11th in ERA and second in WHIP among all Minor League qualifiers. Dykstra did not give up a hit for 12.0 innings (from the third inning on April 9 at Frederick through the end of the first inning on Wednesday against Carolina).

DYKSTRA, HEIDENREICH THRIVING

The Dash stand at 5-8 on the season, though two pitchers (Dykstra and fellow right-hander Matt Heidenreich) have combined to go 5-0 in their first five combined outings. Dykstra and Heidenreich have teamed up for a 0.87 earned run average (3 ER in 31.0 IP). Only the Potomac duo of Brian Rauh and Nick Pivetta has a better combined ERA (0.52). The rest of the Dash pitching staff has combined for a 4.81 ERA.

SLOW, BUT STEADY

Winston-Salem's offense amassed 14 runs in its two-out-of-three take against Carolina earlier this week. After blasting Frederick 13-0 in their opener, the Dash only scored 22 runs over the next 10 contests (2.2 runs per game) in advance of the aforementioned series with the Mudcats. Still, the Dash stand fifth in runs per game (3.8), seventh in batting average (.226) and eighth in home runs (2) on the eight-team circuit.

EYEING REVENGE

The Dash invade Myrtle Beach for a four-game Southern Division series. The Pelicans have won five of six, including all three in a rain-shortened set at BB&T Ballpark last weekend. During that series, Winston-Salem hit just .205 (16-for-78) and was outscored 15-7. The club has struggled on the Grand Strand in recent years. The Pelicans claimed eight of the 10 meetings in Myrtle Beach a year ago, while the Dash have not had a winning record in South Carolina since the 2012 campaign (6-4).

A FIVE-YEAR WAIT

Winston-Salem infielder Ethan Wilson replaced Trey Michalczewski early in Wednesday's win over Carolina. Wilson had not played in a Minor League game since August 30, 2010, while with rookie-level Bristol, a team that is no longer in the White Sox farm system. Wilson learned in Spring Training in 2011 that his kidneys were failing him. He had a kidney transplant more than three years later. The former Indiana Hoosier went 0-for-3 on Wednesday, and he recorded his only putout on a strong backhand play near the line at third in the eighth inning.

SPEEDY DUO

Winston-Salem owns a share of the top spot in the Carolina League in stolen bases (17), largely thanks to the speedy tandem of Adam Engel and Keenyn Walker. Both men have swiped seven bases, which places them in a share of eighth place in all of Minor League Baseball. Winston-Salem is one of two Minor League teams with two men at seven stolen bases or more (Charleston; Low-A, NY Yankees).

DASH DOTS

The Dash will play 11 of their next 14 games away from BB&T Ballpark, with the lone home set coming April 28-30 against Potomac...Even though he mustered only three RBIs during the six-game homestand, Keon Barnum's 11 RBIs are still third-most in the league...Southpaw Jace Fry gets another chance against the Pelicans after losing them on Friday (5IP/3R).
