MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (APRIL 23, 2015) -- The Chicago Cubs have promoted Myrtle Beach Pelicans right-handed pitcher Matt Brazis (BRAY-ziss) to Double-A. Shawon Dunston Jr. has been placed on the 7-day disabled list. In corresponding roster moves, pitcher Ben Wells has been promoted to the Pelicans from Extended Spring Training, and Myrtle Beach has received outfielder Kevin Brown from Triple-A Iowa.

Brazis, 25, makes it back to Double-A, and the promotion marks his first trip to Double-A Tennessee. The Tampa, Florida, native pitched last season between Class-A Advanced High Desert and Double-A Jackson in the Seattle Mariners system and was dealt to the Cubs in exchange for Justin Ruggiano on December 17, 2014. In three appearances for Myrtle Beach, Brazis was 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA and went 3-for-3 in save chances. In 4 2/3 innings of work, he surrendered two runs, both earned, on three hits and four walks. He struck out six. In 17 appearances at Double-A last year, Brazis posted a 1-1 record and 1.64 ERA with a pair of saves in 33 innings of work. The former Boston College Eagle was selected by the Mariners in the 28th round of the 2012 MLB draft.

Dunston Jr., 22, was hitting .219 in ten games for the Pelicans with two triples and two runs knocked in. He was lifted from the Wednesdays ballgame in the third inning and replaced by Wes Darvill in left field. Dunston Jr. played 96 games last season and 58 in his first professional season in 2012. The Fremont, California, product was an 11th round selection by the Cubs in 2011 draft.

Wells, 22, has yet to play in an official game this season, as he began the year in Extended Spring Training in Mesa, Arizona. The Cubs seventh round pick from 2010 split last season at three different stops, making six appearances for Class A-Short Season Boise, seven for Class-A Kane County, and eight for Class A-Advanced Daytona. In total, the right-hander made 21 appearances, 18 starts, going 8-6 with a 3.86 ERA. He surrendered 43 runs, 37 earned, in 86 1/3 innings, fanning 60 and walking 63.

Brown, 24, hit .364 (4-for-11) with Triple-A Iowa in seven games, including two starts. He doubled twice and plated two runs, striking out three times and walking once. Like Wells, Brown played for three levels last year, splitting time between Boise, Kane County, and Double-A Tennessee. In 62 total games, the Northborough, Massachusetts, native hit .261, clubbing 14 doubles, four triples, and five homers with 37 RBI.

With the roster moves, the Pelicans roster remains at 25 active players, now with three players on the disabled list.

The Pelicans open up a four-game homestand against the Winston-Salem Dash on Thursday, April 23, at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. First pitch for Fridays contest is slated for 7:05 p.m. ET

The 2015 season marks the 17th season for the Pelicans franchise and first as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. For information on tickets to see the Pelicans in 2015, please call (843) 918-6000, e-mail info@myrtlebeachpelicans.com, or visit www.MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
