Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the acquisition of veteran outfielder Mike Wilson from Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League in exchange for player to be named later. Wilson has also been signed to a contract for the 2015 season.

Wilson, 31, is a former Major Leaguer with the Seattle Mariners. He appeared in eight games for Seattle in 2011, hitting .148 with three RBI. Last season, he played in 83 games combined with Class AAA Louisville of the International League, Monclova of the Mexican League and Somerset, hitting .267 with 15 home runs and 40 RBI.

"We were looking for another middle of the lineup presence and we feel pretty confident we found that guy in Mike Wilson," Forney said. "He's going to help provide a lot of protection for the other power hitters in the middle of our lineup. Adding someone of his experience and stature certainly helps the ball club."

A veteran of 1,061 professional games, Wilson was a second round pick of the Seattle Mariners in the 2001 MLB Amateur Draft. He played 11 seasons in their system, including seven of those seasons at Class AA or AAA. He has also been a farmhand for the San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds. He has a career .268 batting average, 176 home runs and 641 RBI.

The Goldeyes now have 23 players signed for the 2015 season, including 11 pitchers players and 12 position players.

Season tickets and 9-Game Mini Packs for the 2015 season are now on sale. Fans can visit Goldeyes.com or call 982-BASE (2273) for more information.
