Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER - Austin Brice allowed just one run in six innings and Noah Perio homered but Jupiter fell to Brevard County 4-1 on Friday night. The loss snapped the Sharks season-high six game winning streak.
Brice got the start for Jupiter and the right-hander and Manatee starter Jorge Lopez exchanged zeros through the first five frames of the game.
In the sixth the 'Tees scored the game's first run. Nathan Orf ledoff the inning with a single and he went to second on a grounder before scampering to third on a fly out. Cameron Garfield would then come through when he pulled a double down the third base line to make it 1-0.
The Manatees would add to the lead in the following inning when Alfredo Rodriguez reached on a one out single and advanced to third when Brian Ellington uncorked a wild pitch.
With the infield in, Garrett Cooper would then shoot a single up the middle to make it 2-0 Brevard County. Yaduel Rivera would follow with a triple down the right field line to plate Cooper. He would score in the next at bat when Orf hit a sac fly to right.
The Hammerheads would get a run back in the bottom of the seventh when Perio hit a solo homer off Mike Strong, his first long ball of the year.
But Jupiter couldn't manage any more offense on the night as Tanner Poppe tossed two no-hit innings to pick up his 9th save of the year.
Lopez would pick up the win after he shutout the Hammerheads in six innings. He allowed five hits and struck out five.
The Hammerheads did have a chance off Lopez in the sixth when they loaded the bases when Matt Juengel was hit with a pitch, Austin Barnes singled and Colin Moran walked, but Lopez struck out Jesus Solorzano to end the threat and end his night on the mound.
Brice was given his fourth loss of the season although he tied a career-high with nine strikeouts. He allowed the one run on four hits with two walks.
The Hammerheads (19-22) and Manatees (21-18) will play the second game of the series on Saturday night. It will be Goodwill Night at the Dean as every fan that donates three gently used clothing items will receive a free ticket to the game. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
