Winless Streak Extended in Loss to Griffins
December 4, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill. - The Rockford IceHogs (7-12-1-2) hosted a crowd of 5,272 fans on Teddy Bear Toss night, but were upended by four unanswered goals in a 4-1 loss to the Grand Rapids (12-6-0-2) Saturday night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. The Hogs have now gone winless in six straight games since last defeating Texas on Nov. 19.
Cameron Schilling unleashed the storm of teddy bears and stuffed animals that rained onto the BMO Harris Bank Center ice with his power-play goal 5:34 into the first period. The defenseman is tied for the team lead with five goals this season.
Grand Rapids waited less than two minutes to erase the deficit. Mitch Callahan evened the contest with an even-strength goal at 7:04 when he pounced on a rebound left by Rockford starting goalie Mac Carruth.
Chris DeSousa and Dan Renouf then dropped the gloves with a little under five minutes remaining in the first period. The Griffins then rallied first following the exchange, and were able to capitalize on the power play because of DeSousa's additional roughing penalty. Matt Lorito finished off a strike on the man advantage with a wrister from the bottom of the right circle to put Grand Rapids up 2-1 at 16:04 of the first.
In the second period, Jake Hildebrand, who was recalled from the ECHL's Indy Fuel just prior to the game, took over in relief for Carruth. Hildebrand made 19 saves in his first career AHL career game with 14 coming in the middle frame.
Kyle Crisuolo and Louis-Marc Aubry sealed the Griffins victory with goals in the second and third periods.
Next Home Game: Wednesday, December 7 vs. the San Antonio Rampage (8-10-1-0) at 7 p.m. The IceHogs welcome the Rampage for their teams' first matchup of the season. After every IceHogs home win on a weekday game (Monday - Thursday), all fans in attendance can redeem their game ticket for a FREE ticket of equal or lesser value to the next weekday game. Also, one lucky fan in attendance will WIN a $50 gas card courtesy of Fas Fuel. It is also WXRX Dollar Days where fans can take advantage of $2 beers, soft drinks, hot dogs and companion tickets.
