Syracuse Crunch News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - After going down by a two-goals, Cory Conacher and Yanni Gourde scored 1:30 apart in the third period to knot the game. However, the Syracuse Crunch were unable to claim the lead and fell to the Hershey Bears, 4-2, tonight at the Giant Center.
The loss snaps a five-game points streak and moves the team to 12-6-0-2 on the season.
Kristers Gudlevskis stopped 9-of-12 shots in goal for the Crunch, while Joe Cannata made 35 saves for the Bears. Syracuse went 2-for-7 on the power play and stopped all four Hershey man-advantages.
The Bears were first on the board with 4:58 remaining in the first period. Garrett Mitchell skated down the left wing side and beat Gudlevskis from a sharp angle.
Hershey doubled their lead just seconds into the third period. During 4-on-4 play, Nathan Walker chipped the puck out from the end boards for Zach Sanford to send home. Christian Djoos earned a point on the marker.
The Crunch finally got on the board at the 3:38 mark of the final frame. Tanner Richard started off some tic-tac-toe passing along the left boards during a 5-on-3 advantage. He passed to Matt Taormina in the high slot, who then sent it to the right circle for Conacher to one-time past Cannata. Just 1:30 later, the Crunch evened the score with a second power-play goal. Matt Peca passed ahead for Gourde who skated into the zone and netted a wrist shot. Gudlevskis earned the secondary assist.
The Bears went back up on top with 1:29 remaining in the game. Travis Boyd fed Aaron Ness on the backdoor for a quick redirection. Tyler Lewington tallied a helper on the go-ahead goal. In the final seconds, Zach Sill added an empty net marker to take the win and build a 2-0 lead in the four-game season series.
