Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
Held scoreless by the Edinburg Roadrunners on Thursday, the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings turned the situation around by blanking the visitors, 3-0, at Harlingen Field Friday night.
It was a pitchers dual between the two starters, Wings Coleman Stephens and Roadrunner pitcher DaveDineli. Each hurler gave up three hits and four walks, the only difference was the WhiteWings scored a run in the second inning, giving Stephens the win.
The WhiteWings scored two unearned runs in the seventh inning.
The inning was marred when Nic Lezendorf was knocked unconscious on a fast ball by Edinburg relief pitcher Julio Castro.
Lezendorf was on the ground motionless for several minutes before being helped to his feet. He was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center for observation.
Ironically, it was a special night for the medical center and there was plenty of medical assistance available.
The Roadrunners have gone scoreless in innings in the past two games. The Wings had gone 11 innings without a run until the second inning run.
The WhiteWings open a two game series Saturday against the McAllen Thunder. Celsen Polanco will be the starting pitcher.
