Wings Use Big Inning to Defeat Edinburg

HARLINGEN, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley White Wings scored eight runs in the second inning to defeat the Edinburg Roadrunners 13-6 on Tuesday night at Harlingen Field.

The Roadrunners got on the board first when Tomochika Tsuboi reached base on a single and then scored on a series of errors to make it 1-0 game.

Edinburg would score three more times in the inning capped off by a Carlton Salters RBI single to make 4-0 game.

In the second inning it went downhill for the Roadrunners when Rio Grande Valley batted around the line up and scored eight runs and chase starter Elroy Urbina from the game. The big hits for the White Wings came when Albert Carpen and Thomas Shull delivered 2 run singles and Aaron Gates hit a two run double to make it a 8-4 game.

The White Wings added a runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth innings to put the game out of reach for the Roadrunners.

The Roadrunners added consolation runs in the seventh and ninth innings to make it a respectable score line. Chris Christopolous and Fernando de los Santos each had three hits to pace the offense.

Urbina (0-1) took the loss going an inning and a third surrendering five runs, all earned on three walks.

A.J. Smouse (3-0) earned the win for the White Wings going five and two thirds innings while giving up four runs, 11 hits and four strike outs..

The Roadrunners and White Wings will play game three of the four game series at Harlingen Field on Wednesday night with the first pitch at 7:05 pm.

The next home game for the Roadrunners will be on Friday, June 14 as they will host the RGV White Wings and it will be RGV CALA Thunder sticks Night where the first 1,000 fans thru the gates will receive a pair.
