Wings Split Weekend Series in Austin

The Aberdeen Wings had an offensive explosion Friday night, but couldn't find enough Saturday, splitting the weekend in Austin.

Simon Pollock got the Wings on the board early in the 1st period Friday night, scoring just 5 minutes into the contest with Bulgakov and Mackie assisting. That was Pollocks 3rd of the season. Nikolai Tishkevich would extend the lead with a minute to go in the first, Wisener and Bulgakov assisted to give the Wings a 2-0 lead after 1. The Wings stepped on the gas early in the 2nd period getting goals from Weston Turner (Pollock & Holmstrom), Matthew Wisener (Vahakangas & Bulgakov), Siomon Pollock (Reim & Dybal) & Riley Sharun (Vahakangas & Turner). Giving the Wings a 6 goal cushion. Austin would get on the board just over midway through the contest on an unassisted goal from Isaak Brassard. Just minutes later Isak Holmstrom would answer with assists going to Sharun & Mackie. Austin would get goals from Ocean Wallace and Austin Salani to make it a 7-3 final Wings victory. The big story of the game other then the Wings finding their offensive stride was the penalties. Aberdeen was 4 of 16 on the power play and Austin was 2 of 10. The Wings had 16 infractions for 67 minutes in the box and Austin had 21 for 66 minutes. Adam Dybal was solid in goal for the Wings stopping 28 of 31.

Saturday was a much different story, as Austin's Dylan Cook was able to take advantage of an early Aberdeen turnover to score on their first shot of the game. Matthew Wisener (Bulgakov & Turner) was able to answer for the Wings with a power play goal at the 12:23 mark. But that would be it for the Wings. Saturday it was Austin who poured it on in the 2nd period getting 4 goals from Alex Laurenza, Alder Johnston, Austin Salani & Ocean Wallace. Alse Laurenza would add one in the 3rd to cruise to a 6-1 Saturday night victory. The Wings were 1 of 7 on the power play and Austin was 3 of 6. Dybal started in net for the Wings but Croix Kochendorfer would come in relief stopping 16 of the 18 shots he faced.
