HARLINGEN, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings won game two of a four-game series powering past The Edinburg Roadrunners 13-6 Tuesday night at Harlingen Field.
WhiteWings starting pitcher AJ Smouse was off to a rough start as two costly errors gave the Edinburg Roadrunners an early 2-0 lead, as Smouse allowed 5 hits and four unearned runs.
The WhiteWings started off the second inning with back to back hits off the bats of Michael Garcia and Justin Juneau, this sparked an eight run inning as the Wings took control of game two.
Albert Carpen and Thomas Shull hit back to back doubles collecting a combined 4 RBI's in the bottom of the second inning making the score 6-4 Wings.
Aaron Gates then smoked an RBI double adding to the lead 7-4. Gates is now second in the league with 19 RBI's.
It was an offensive show case for the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings as they scored a season high 13 runs along with 12 hits combined. Michael Garcia finished 2-for-4 on the night with a triple and a single, Thomas Shull also had a slid night at the plate going 2-for-5 collecting three RBI's; this brings Shull's RBI count to 15 on the year.
Game three is set for Wednesday as local hero Danny Gidora makes his first career start in professional baseball. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
