Wings Ground Baby Bombers for Mother's Day Win

May 13, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Red Wings rode a Nick Buss three-run, second inning homer to a 3-1 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Mother's Day.

The win gave the Wings (16-15) a series win as they finished their road trip 4-2 and are only 2.5 GB of first-place Lehigh Valley. Rochester improved to an impressive 12-6 away from Frontier Field this season.

Myles Jaye (W, 2-2) got the start for the Wings and allowed just a Clint Frazier solo homer in the 3rd inning despite putting 10 runners aboard in his five innings of work. He was able to escape jams in the fourth and fifth innings before turning things over to the bullpen.

Jake Reed (IP), Alan Busenitz (2 IP) and John Curtiss (S, IP) combined to allow just two base runners while striking out seven over four spotless innings.

With Sunday's performance, the Rochester bullpen lowered its season ERA to 2.21.

Buss' homer - his first as a Red Wing - came after singles by Kennys Vargas and Wynston Sawyer with one out in the second inning.

The homer was just the 15th of the year for the Red Wings - who rank 13th in the IL ahead of only the Syracuse Chiefs.

After an off-day on Monday, the Wings welcome the Chiefs to town on Tuesday to open a three-game series. The Red Wings will send their ace, Aaron Slegers (3-1, 2.41), to the mound in the opener.
