Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Unable to respond to the aggressive offense of the Toledo Mud Hens (23-12), the Louisville Bats (12-21) dropped the rubber match of the series, 10-4 on Sunday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field.

Louisville starter Jose Lopez (0-4, 5.80) earned the loss, surrendering three home runs through 4.1 innings. He allowed five hits, five earned runs, walked four and struck out four on 84 pitches. The Bats are now 0-7 when Lopez starts. Toledo reliever, A.J. Ladwig (5-0, 2.13) got the win throwing 5.2 innings, surrendering five hits, two earned runs, walking one and striking out five.

The offensive game for Louisville was one of catch-up. While the Mud Hens struck early with Christin Stewart connecting for his first home run of the day, the Bats responded straight away as first baseman Brandon Dixon doubled to score Mason Williams and tie the game.

Toledo blasted back-to-back homers in the third but Williams inched back, sprinting home off a wild pitch to make it 3-2 at the end of the third.

After a relatively close first half of the game, the Louisville bullpen began to struggle against the Toledo lineup and the Mud Hens pulled away. A two-run double in the fifth followed by three homers in the sixth, which accounted for five runs, produced a 10-2 deficit from which the Bats were unable to recover. The Mud Hens hit six home runs as a team today, the most homers hit by a team in a game in Louisville Slugger Field's history.

A glimmer of hope appeared in the bottom of the sixth as the Bats scored two runs from a Hernan Iribarren RBI single and Gabriel Guerrero sacrifice fly but it was not enough to create any momentum.

The Bats hit the road on Tuesday when they head to North Carolina for a three-game series against the Durham Bulls. Louisville southpaw, Justin Nicolino (1-2, 4.09) will go head to head against Durham's Chih-Wei Hu (0-2, 4.50). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
