THE STAKES: The Dorados will be looking to avenge their only loss of the season, while the BattleWings must win to keep their fading division title hopes alive. Both teams have clinched playoff spots, so this game is about seeding and the ability to host a post-season game.

LAST TIME THEY MET:

The Battlewings scored with three seconds showing on the clock to cap off a thrilling 52-48 win over Dorados.

The game was a rock and roll thrill ride, with teams swapping scores until the final seconds. On the Battlewings' final offensive play, Quincy Carter hit PJ Winston in the end zone from 24 yards away to provide the margin of victory. It was the third touchdown catch of the night for Winston, who caught ten passes for 177 yards. Carter completed 27 of 42 attempts for 344 yards and seven touchdowns. The BattleWings could manage only a field goal in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Wings would claim their first lead. Carter hit Jamaal Perry from 16 yards out, capping a five play, 40-yard drive to go ahead 10-7. The lead would change hands four times before the half. Carter's 38-yard scoring pass to PJ Winston at 5:34 o the 2nd quarter made it 17-14. The Battlewings led 24-21 at the half following a Carter to Perry scoring pass with five seconds showing on the clock.

The Dorados quickly regained the lead with the first possession of the second half when Josh Kellett and George Williams connected on a six-yard scoring play. The Wings had a dramatic response: Carter to Manwell Talbert on the very next play. The 37-yard pitch and catch made the score 31-28 Battlewings.

With less than four minutes remaining in the game, Carter fumbled the snap from center at his own 5 yard line. Keenan Williams of the Dorados picked up the loose ball and scampered into the end zone for a score that would give RGV a 41-38 advantage.

But Carter and Talbert combined for another one-play dandy, a 24-yard scoring toss on the next play. When the Dorados scored with less than a minute to go to take a 48-45 lead, the stage was set for Carter and Winston's dramatic finish, a pass into the back right corner of the end zone which Winston hauled in with ease.

THE IFs:

If The Battle Wings defeat Rio Grande Valley, it would ...

- Keep the BattleWings' division title hopes alive

- Enhance the BattleWings' chances of hosting a playoff game.

- Be RGV"s second loss of the season to the Wings.

- Give the BattleWings a 7-1 record at home in 2007.

- Give the home crowd a thrill on Fan Appreciation Night.

SERIES NOTABLES:

The quarterback matchup in this game is noteworthy. Josh Kellett of the Dorados and Bossier-Shreveport's Quincy Carter are among af2 leaders in passing efficiency.

Kellett's favorite target is George Williams, who leads the league in receiving yards per game. Williams caught eight passes against the BattleWings in this season's previous encounter.

THE SERIES: The Battle Wings have defeated the Dorados three times in six previous meetings. Earlier this season, the Wings scored with 2.9 seconds showing on the clock to win by four points.

In 2006, The BattleWings lost in Hidalgo, 43-28. Later in the season, the Dorados won in CenturyTel Center 61-48. The Wings' other victories in the series took place on May 2, 2005 and in Bossier City in June of 2004. The 2005 victory was a 77-69 shootout in the Valley. The only players on the current Battle Wings' roster to participate in that game were Quincy Myles, who had three solo tackles and Brian Hazelwood, who had 10 extra points. Hazelwood missed on place-kick in the game, but made up for it with a two-point drop kick.

FAMILIAR FACES:

Phillip Geiggar and Quincy Myles of the BattleWings are most familiar with the Dorados, having played against them twice in 2006.

HEAD COACHES:

Marty Hammond, RGV

Hammond is in his second season as Head Coach of the Dorados. Before moving to the Rio Grande Valley, he served as the Offensive Coordinator/Receivers Coach for Tennessee Valley from 2003-04 and receivers coach in 2002. He played wide receiver at the University of West Alabama from 1992-95. Hammond graduated in 1996 with a degree in computer science. As a freshman, he was named the Gulf Coast Conference Rookie of the Year after catching 39 passes for 339 and two touchdowns. A native of Lexington, Ala., he was an All-State pick and MVP for Lexington High School. In 1998 he served as an Assistant Coach at Spanish River High School in Boca Raton, Fla., then moved on as an Assistant Offensive Coordinator at Santaluces High School in Lantana, Fla., in 1999.

In 2006, he coached the Dorados to a 7-9 record.

Jon Norris, Bossier - Shreveport: (First season)

Jon Norris came to the BattleWings from the Austin Wranglers of the AFL where he served as the Defensive Coordinator and Line Coach. He made a demonstrative difference in Austin where in 2005, the offensive line gave up only 4 sacks which led the AFL. Norris spent 3 seasons with the Dallas Desperados in the AFL where he served as line coach and special teams coach. His line racked up some impressive stats, both offensively and defensively. Under Norris' leadership, Will Pettis led AFL with 88 kickoff returns for 1750 yards and 4 TD's. Norris moved to Dallas after a stint as assistant head coach and offensive and defensive line coach for the Oklahoma Wranglers. His Oklahoma defense finished 3rd in AFL with 21 sacks. Norris served as head coach for the Tulsa Talons (af2) and led them to the playoffs in their inaugural season with an offense that averaged 52.7 points per game and a defense that led the league with 33 interceptions

Norris spent time in the NFL with the New England Patriots in 1984 and 1985. He played for the Chicago Bears in 1987 and 1988. Norris is married with two sons.
