Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release
BOARDMAN, Ohio - Mahoning Valley Thunder WR Chris Johnson was awarded the Cutters Catch of the Week, the arenafootball2 League Office announced Tuesday.
Each week, the af2 League Office will award four players from around the league with the U.S. Army Ironman, Schutt Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week. In addition to these three awards, the af2 is also highlighting the player who makes the best catch of the week.
Johnson, who is in his third season in af2, was activated from the injured reserve list last week after dislocating his elbow in Week 8 at Florida. On Saturday night versus Louisville, Johnson came in motion from the right side, blew past his defender and in mid-stride, caught a one-handed touchdown as he fell in the end zone.
Johnson finished with a game-high 10 catches for 140 yards and all four of the Thunder's receiving touchdowns. Along with the Cutters Catch of the Week, Johnson earned the Cutters Catch of the Game and the Kernan Insurance Player of the Game award for his performance.
WR Chris Archie is the only other Thunder player to garner League Awards this season. He was awarded the Cutters Catch of the Week in the opening week of the season for his spectacular catch versus the Tri-Cities Fever.
