Wings' Athan Iannucci Named National Lacrosse League's Player Of The Month

The Philadelphia Wings own "AI", Athan Iannucci, was named the NLL's Player Of The Month for January while first round draft pick Merrick Thomson captured Rookie of the Month honors. The duo has combined for 22 of the team's 49 goals, leading Philadelphia to a 3-0 record, their best start since 1997.

"I am glad that Athan and Merrick are being recognized for their fine play in January," said Wings Head Coach Dave Huntley. "We look forward to even better things from both players the rest of this season."

Iannucci, a second-year forward, led the league with 14 goals in January, despite playing just three games. The 25-year-old right-hander also scooped 32 loose balls and added seven assists for Philadelphia. The Hofstra University graduate was drafted by the Wings in the first round (eighth overall) in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft.

Thomson, a University of Albany graduate who was selected second overall by the Wings in the 2007 Entry Draft, led all rookies in January with eight goals and nine assists. The 24-year-old left-hander also scooped 11 loose balls for the 3-0 Wings.

The Wings see their next game action on Friday, February 15 when they face the Western Division leading Colorado Mammoth. The game will be broadcast on Comcast SportsNet at 10:30 p.m. EST.
