February 5, 2008 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release
Philadelphia Wings forward Athan Iannucci has been named January's Overall Player of the Month, while teammate Merrick Thomson has been named Rookie of the Month. The duo has combined for 22 of the teams 49 goals, leading Philadelphia to a 3-0 record, their best start since 1997.
Iannucci, a second-year player out of Hofstra University, led the league with 14 goals in January, despite playing just three games. The 25-year-old right-hander also scooped 32 loose balls and added seven assists for Philadelphia.
Thomson, a University at Albany graduate who was selected second overall in the 2007 Entry Draft, led all rookies in January with eight goals and nine assists. The 24-year-old left-hander also scooped 11 loose balls for the 3-0 Wings.
Philadelphia will next meet the 4-0 Colorado Mammoth on February 15th at Pepsi Center.
The Monthly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league's 12 teams. The January voting included the league's December 29th season opener (Colorado vs Calgary).
