Wings Acquire Nadelen From Minnesota
February 8, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Philadelphia Wings News Release
The Philadelphia Wings indoor lacrosse team has acquired veteran defenseman Shawn Nadelen and a first round draft pick in the 2005 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft from the Minnesota Swarm. In exchange, the Swarm received the Wings 2003 first round draft pick, Ryan Ward, and the Wings' fourth pick in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft.
"We're excited to have Shawn back on the squad after losing him to Minnesota in the dispersal draft last fall," said Wings General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "He adds size to our defense and will fit in with the running game that we currently have. With the loss of (Rich) Brzeski last week (torn ACL), Shawn will help stabilize our defense."
Nadelen has scored four points (2G, 2A) in five games played for the Swarm this season. The 6-foot, 200 pound defenseman was acquired by the Storm from the Wings in the 2004 expansion draft. He recorded ten points (1G, 9A) and 67 loose balls and nine penalty minutes in eleven games played during the 2004 season for the Wings. Nadelen started his NLL career with the former New Jersey Storm where he spent the 2002 and 2003 seasons. The Henrietta, NY native played collegiate lacrosse at Johns Hopkins University where he received second team All-American honors in 2001.
Ward, a second-year forward, recorded 43 points (23G, 20A) in 18 games played for the Wings during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. He was chosen as a member of the NLL's All-Rookie Team in 2004.
The first-round pick the Wings acquire in this trade brings their total first-round picks to three for the 2005 NLL Entry Draft. This will be the first time in franchise history that the team has had three picks in the first round.
