Stealth Forward Ryan Boyle Named Rookie Of The Month
February 8, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
San Jose Stealth News Release
SAN JOSE - San Jose Stealth forward Ryan Boyle was chosen as the National Lacrosse League's Rookie Of The Month for January. The NLL Player of the Month is determined by a vote of the general managers and head coaches of the league's 10 member clubs.
Boyle captured the award in helping San Jose to a 3-2 record in January. He led all rookies in total points with 23 (11 goals and 12 assists), while adding 26 loose balls. Boyle was the only player in the league to earn two weekly player awards in the first month, as he collected Week Two and Week Four rookie of the week honors.
Making his NLL debut, Boyle was named Rookie of the Week after posting nine points (three goals and six assists) in two games against Calgary in the first week of the season. He maintained the pace in Week Four by netting two hat tricks against Arizona and Minnesota.
"I've been progressing every game," Boyle said. "I'd be lying if I didn't say I made a mistake or two, so there's still room for improvement. I'm happy with at least putting up some numbers and helping the team win some games."
Stealth General Manager and Head Coach Johnny Mouradian is very pleased with Boyle's performance this season.
"It's nice when you have a young rookie like Boyle contributing as much as he has," Mouradian said. "Ryan is proving he can be a goal scorer in this league as well as a playmaker."
The Princeton University graduate and third overall selection in the 2004 Entry Draft was one of only two players to record two game-winning goals in January along with Rochester Knighthawks forward John Grant Jr. In the Feb. 5 game at Philadelphia, Boyle helped make plays all night by posting five assists while scooping 14 loose balls.
Boyle is sixth in the league in scoring, behind Calgary's Tracey Kelusky, Grant, Buffalo's John Tavares, Arizona's Dan Dawson and teammate Gary Rosyski.
Boyle will be back in action next week as the Stealth take on Gary Gait and the Colorado Mammoth on Friday, Feb. 18 at HP Pavilion at San Jose at 8 p.m. Tickets are still available at all Ticketmaster locations, ticketmaster.com, by calling 408-999-5700 or at the HP Pavilion box office.
