
Wingnuts' Van Stratten Named Player of the Week

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Wichita Wingnuts OF Nick Van Stratten (pictured) has been named this week's Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending September 6.
The veteran outfielder played in six games this week for Wichita, and went 14-for-30 (.467) at the plate, collecting two doubles, a triple, two home runs and 10 RBI. Wichita, champions of the American Association's South Division, went 3-3 over the course of the week.
Van Stratten began his week on Tuesday with a home game against the Amarillo Thunderheads. He went 2-for-3, collecting the first of his home runs on the week in a 7-2 loss. Wichita rebounded on Wednesday, earning a 10-9 matinee comeback win. Van Stratten played a large role in the effort, as he went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. The Wingnuts won again on Thursday, dominating Amarillo 12-2. Van Stratten had another three-hit game, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Amarillo was able to force a series split on Friday with a 3-2 win, and Van Stratten was just 1-for-5 with a double. Saturday saw the Grand Prairie AirHogs come to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, and Van Stratten had a monster game. He was 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and a whopping six RBI as Wichita rolled 21-3. Van Stratten closed the week on Sunday with a 2-for-4 performance that included a double and a run scored in a 4-1 loss.
Van Stratten is now batting .409 since signing with Wichita on August 22. He has four doubles, two triples, two home runs and 19 RBI in the 16-game stretch. Van Stratten has also played with the Atlantic League's Bridgeport Bluefish and the Broncos de Reynosa in the Mexican League in 2015. He spent 2014 with the Laredo Lemurs, batting .349 in 97 games with the club. That stint followed a year with the Sioux Falls Canaries in which he hit .352 with 25 doubles. Van Stratten was previously property of the Kansas City Royals, playing in the team's system from 2006-2012. He played as high as the Class AA Northwest Arkansas Naturals, spending time there from 2010-2012.
Wichita will open the 2015 American Association Postsesaon on Wednesday with a game at the wild-card winning Laredo Lemurs.
